Like I said earlier this month, I've had a beautiful display at the Lotus Tree for the last year and half. Now that they are adding a Speech Therapy Division, I've volunteered my time again to help decorate the new addition of their business.

Julius and I attend a playgroup where I was able to photograph some gorgeous little guys and girls. Here are the photographs we'll be displaying HUGE! So - be sure to make it to the Open House so that you can see the new display at the Lotus Tree - Speech Therapy Division!!!

Church Without Walls?

I don't go to church...I AM the church.

A great thing is happening with churches across the Treasure Valley. On the every fifth Sunday during the course of the year (I believe there are about 4 or 5 Sundays total), Trinity Presbyterian Church is serving where the needs are around the Valley, rather than attending church. I had the privilege of working at the Hay's House in Boise. We spent the day working on laying brick at their garden. I know we were there to serve others, but as serving often goes, the "servant" is the one to receive the blessing.

Although I wasn't able to be SUPER productive (something about being in the heat, being pregnant and possibly becoming dehydrated!), I was able to take some photographs for the church. Here are the hard workers I photographed that day!

One of Julius' Good Friends...

I am currently working on a project for The Lotus Tree, a sensory integration clinic in Bown Crossing. I have had some beautiful photographs up as a display for over a year. They are now adding a Speech Therapy division, for which I am also donating time for their decor. For one of their rooms, we bought some rad vintage-looking cars from Ross (my favorite place to shop!!!) and took some pics of Miss "E" playing with them.

However - as a girl - the cars weren't that interesting. While we had trouble keeping Julius away from them, Miss "E" wasn't having anything to do with them. So - our solution? Place some cookies in the car. IT WORKED!!! Shhhh...don't tell anyone my secret :).

Totally Unrelated to Anything, Really...

So, Lumuli and I saw, "Knowing" tonight (at Overland Park - LOVE that cheap little theatre!!!). There is a possible spoiler in this post, so if you want to see it and haven't, skip my comments :).

It started out soooo cool. VERY suspenseful - I love this kind of movie. Then, there were these weird men who came from nowhere. It's like they mixed two VERY different genres. I gave it the benefit of the doubt, hoping they would somehow tie the movie together.

But nope, just ended like a silly little extra-terrestrial movie. Jeesh. C'mon, writers. Couldn't you have come up with something a little less contrived???

My Sweet, Sweet Niece Graduated Today...

I can't believe it's been 17 years since my darling niece was born. She was always full of such love and affection for those around her. She has not changed. She is just as sweet as she was at 2 as she is at 17.

She is a lover of Jesus, an AMAZING artist (takes after her mother!) and an all-around great gal. It's so hard to believe that she is old enough to see my husband traipsing around on campus!

I am so proud of you, Ems. Congratulations, Honey. I am so excited to see the great things God has in store for you...

I had the wonderful privilege of photographing this lovely family this week! With two girls who absolutely adore each other, how could I not just have a great time?

I photographed these girls the evening before we found out that we were having a girl and after this session, I wanted a little girl all that much more (that's not proper grammar, is it?). We took a small jog over to the Shakespeare Festival where we were greeted with lovely grasses and beautiful colors! The Jury Has Reached it's Verdict!!!

Let me begin by saying that for the last two days, Julius has told us that he is going to have a little sister. Not even sure he knew what this meant, he was very consistent and persistent on his evaluation.

Turns out he is right :). We are having a little GIRL!!!

I AM SOOOOOO EXCITED!!!! From the beginning, I have unashamedly been hoping for a little girl (only because I think this will be our last biological child), thinking that I would be completely devastated if I was not having a girl - not because I didn't want a boy, I just wanted a girl :). Anywho - about 5 weeks ago, I really felt good about having another boy - for reals. Not because I didn't want to be "disappointed". It was a surprising peace, but let me tell you - when I found out it was a girl, my inner girllyness came through!!! I screamed like a little girl :). So - we are very happy to have a baby girl on the way - most importantly, though, it looks as though she is growing well and she looks healthy!!! That's what we are truly thankful for :).

Okay, okay - I know y'all want to know who won the contest, so....

Gained a Few Pounds, Got My Hair Cut

The not-so-obvious new thing in these photographs is my hair! I just love it :). Jacquie Otteson from Ingrid's Hair Design Downtown did this for me. She put a bit of purple in my hair as well. Do you see it? I love it!!!

So - for the pretty-obvious new thing in the second photograph. Not all of you blog-stalkers know this (we weren't really open about it until about a month or so ago - not that people couldn't tell anyway), but we are pregnant with our second baby!!! We are so very excited to add this little bundle of joy to our family. *So, just a quick note of maternity leave between October 1st & December 1st-baby is due October 15th. We find out next Wednesday if it is a boy or girl.

This mama called me a few weeks ago to set up her maternity session. They reside in Twin Falls. She gave me a huge compliment on the phone when she said, "I didn't care where you were, I just knew we had to come to you!". Thank you, Hon - you have no idea how much that made my day!

What a beautiful couple - they are so amazingly in love. It was so fun to spend some time with them. I love to hang out with first-time parents. It's such an honorable title, "Mom & Dad" - I love it when the joy of that title spills over into the every day life of a pregnant woman & her husband.

YAY! Congratulations to our good friends, Jon and Kortney. Surprise - it's a girl :). And her sweet name is Luella Belle. Love it! She is just perfect. I had the wonderful opportunity to photograph this dolly and her parents this week. She slept like a little princess and was a perfect little lady. Very impressive, Little One!

Okay, Dear Family, Friends and Clients...I apologize for being a naughty blogger. I have not been blogging like I should - that is a promise that I will get better and post a few times in the next week or so. So sorry :(. And just because no post is ever complete without photographs, let me share some of a dear friend whom I've known since Kindergarten - yes - Kindergarten. We were meant to be friends throughout our entire life - from the age of five, where I walked in my snowboots ahead of Carolyne in order to make a path for her to walk in her dress shoes to the age of 32 (did I just write that out loud???) sharing in our joys and struggles as Mamas. What a joy it is to have such a friend. I love you, Buddy!!!

Well Done, My Good and Faithful Servant

A dear woman I met last fall sadly passed away Friday evening from a long fight with Cancer with her caring family by her side.

Holly was an amazing woman to whom I felt close within the first 5 minutes of us meeting. I was delighted to spend some time with her and Rob in November when I photographed a session for them. You can see their Album HERE. She had a way about her - a "glow" as her cousin calls it. The love of Christ radiated from her. Although I was unfortunate not to know her better, she left an impact on my life, as well as many others because of her unfailing love and faith in the Lord. Although it saddens me that those around her will no longer be graced by her presence, I rejoice because Jesus Christ has freed her from pain and has given her a new body, cancer-free!!!

On Tuesday, just three days before Holly went Home, she did an interview with her hospice provider. Please take a moment to listen to her story. You can find it HERE. You will not finish the interview the same - that is a good thing.

These guys are good friends of Lumuli and I! After much trial and tribulation, these two became pregnant with their first baby _________ (fill in the blank...they are killing us with waiting for the "surprise")! I was (am) ecstatic for them. They will be wonderful parents and we can't wait for them to experience the joys that come with becoming a parent!!!

Whether this is a boy or girl in my dear friend's tummy, I'm sure he/she will have gorgeous crystal eyes like his/her mom and dad. Congratulations, you two! We are SUPER happy for you - I can't wait to photograph your newborn :).

Happy 5th Year Anniversary, Baby!

I love you, Baby!!! Thank you for loving me - I look forward to growing old with you...

I want to begin this post by saying how much I love my husband. I am reminded daily of his patience and love and I am so thankful that he chose me to be his wife. Like all other marriages, we definitely have our moments, but for the most part, it has been one blissful year after another. It's very hard to believe that we have been married for 5 years as of the 20th of March!

On Friday, our actual anniversary, Lumuli took me out to Bonefish Grill at BODO. When we got there, there was a GORGEOUS bouquet on the table waiting for me. I love him sooo much :).

A question that I get a lot from my clients is, "How did you meet your husband"? Well, it's quite a romantic story, actually :). You can read about it HERE at our very own wedding site created by our good friend & talented designer, James Smith (http://www.subdot.com/).

To celebrate our 5th year anniversary, Lumuli and I went on a dream vacation to Hawaii! We left our son with my parents and with some friends so that we would be able to have a wonderful time of re-connection and admiration for one another. Here are some shots from our vacation. Enjoy!

This is one of the few photographs I got before I puked my guts out - the ENTIRE helicopter ride. No Jumbo Jack for me for awhile...

The whales were out in full-force while we were there. We were graced with their presence several times during a lunch cruise to the Molekini Island.

This is pretty much what I did the ENTIRE time on (or off, rather) the boat. I LOVE the water. I, literally, would take my head up, perhaps three times in the 2 hours we snorkled. Lovely times :).

This is the first time I've seen bamboo growing in the wild. It was sooo beautiful! I wish we could grow it here.

One Year Ago this Weekend...

One year ago this weekend, I attended my first Statewide Photography Convention and entered my first competition. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to attend this year's conference, but I can't help but think of how great of an experience it was last year.

I had seven entries and out of those, 5 merited. Now - that probably doesn't mean a lot to most of you, but it was a great honor, as I knew several well-known, well-experienced photographers who didn't merit at all. I also received a "Judge's Choice" award on two of my prints. To give you a little perspective, there were over 125 entries and only 6 judges. I sure was honored!

At the end of the conference, there was an awards ceremony where I was honored with "Idaho's Rookie Photographer of the Year". I was presented with a beautiful crystal that is proudly displayed in my studio.

Anyway - as I reminisce over the last few years of my photographic journey, I want to thank every one of you, without whom, I would not be where I am today!

Meet Apple Horse...

For those of you who have actually had your photographs taken by me, you have heard Apple Horse's music. They are a fusion of musical flavors - kind of a "folk meets indie-art". Just a totally rockin-awesome band. And no - it's not just because one of these studs is my nephew, but because they have music that is good for your soul!!!

Well, Apple Horse competed at "Battle of the Bands" a few weeks ago at the Venue and won! On February 14th, they will compete yet again for a grand prize of $1000 (which will be used to help cut their CD). It's an audience-selected winner, so I would love to see y'all out there!!! Tell you what - if you go that night, tell me and I'll give you 50% off a portrait session fee if you book by the 20th!

Anywho---I offered to do some promotional band photographs for them since they have been so kind as to let me use their music for my portrait slideshows. Ugh!!! Finally :). I know I purposely took this last month to catch up on business things, to go on vacation with my hubby, and just to relax a bit, but I sure have missed the photography part of it all. I was so excited to finally photograph this week :). And to be blessed with such a beautiful, sweet, endearing family made the session all that much more enjoyable!

Meet the "S" Family. They have three girls, well...6, including Mom and their two dogs. Yes, Dad's home is filled with estrogen! He doesn't seem to mind one bit, though. Actually, he is head over heels for his girls and it was such a beautiful thing to see him interact with them :).

Okay - so I am about three days late with my Blog contest. I pretty much was already on vacation come the 20th, so I am sorry for the delay! I just completely spaced putting this online!!! "R" and "J" have been friends of ours for quite awhile - actually, Lumuli and I were lucky enough to be in their wedding three years ago! They now have this beautiful little girl, who, might I add is quite the apple of Julius' eye :).

Poor Little "E" was sooo cold. She had the cutest little shiver-face. It's a good thing we got this done when we did - it snowed about 4 inches the next day :).

I had such fun photographing the annual Christmas Party for Anesthesia Associates this weekend. The event was held at the Crane Creek Country Club. It was a beautiful event and had some amazing looking people from the local medical field who were amazingly dressed.

We set-up a "Photobooth" in one of the rooms (Brides - this is an option for your wedding as well!) for the guests to get their own photographs taken on a plain background in their smart attire. I brought some things for the guests to play with (i.e., a boa, hats, gloves, umbrella, etc.) and they really knew how to ham it up in front of the camera :).

Man - I have to catch up on so many things when I "take a break"!

Anywho - our friends Corrina and Rob and Lumuli, Julius and I went to McCall at their family cabin. We spent Thanksgiving Day eating some yummy food from Marie Calendar's (they cook the entire Thanksgiving meal for you! You just heat it and eat it :) ). We had a great time relaxing - we also had Julius take his first sled-ride on a sparse snowhill. He had some fun, but it would have been so much more fun had there actually been snow! We also went for some gorgeous walks and saw some gorgeous scenery. We also spent some time at Goldfork Hotsprings. It was soooo fun!!! You should definitely make it there! Enjoy some snaps from this last weekend :).

I'm happy to say that I am finally slowing down a bit. I am ready to spend some time with my family, so I will not be available during this week of Thanksgiving. "H" Family Sneak-Peek

This cute little family has just built a house one of the great North-End neighborhoods. It is such a cute Pottery-Barn style house. It has beautiful moulding, a wonderful layout and the fantastic charm of a home built in that era. I had such a great time exploring light in this beautiful home! I loved all of the wonderful touches Mom put into the details - just beautiful!

As beautiful as the house was, it paled in comparison to the two little girls! With bright blond hair, the soon-to-be-three-year-old, "M" was happy to show me around, introducing me to her princess book and her favorite stuffed animals. The three-month-old was just as happy as can be. She entertained me with her joyous smiles and easy-going personality!

"F" Family Newborn Sneak-Peek

I did "J"'s maternity session awhile back - I love it when clients come to me for maternity and newborn sessions. It really allows me to get to know them well. It's so fun to see the excitement of a new mom and dad and the joy they have when they bring that baby in to see me. I am so blessed to be able to witness these joys!!!

I actually know "J" because she is also my hairstylist!!! She is fantastic! She works at Techniques downtown - give her a call - but not for another 5 weeks :). She needs to enjoy her first few weeks with her new baby girl!

Meet Holly & Rob

This is Holly and her husband Rob. And, of course, their two dog-kids, Molly & Grace :). Holly is one of the most amazing women I know. After a year of marriage, she was told she had Ovarian Cancer. She has been fighting it for three years and she insists that she would never take back a single day. She says that it has been what has drawn her close to the Lord. She says that she has never felt closer to God then when she began fighting this disease. It is He whom she has drawn her strength from. It is He who has continued to show his faithfulness to her. It is He who has given her hope in a situation that seems hopeless.

It was a complete honor, Holly and Rob, to photograph you during this time in your journey. We are praying for you every day! You are a beautiful couple ~ Consider Yourselves Loved...

It's Really Amazing...Being a Mom...

I love being a mom. I swore I'd never be the mom who was goo-goo over her child, but when you actually hold that baby for the first time, there's nothing you can do to stop your goo-gooness. Daily, I am remind of how blessed I am to have such a wonderful family. I took Julius out for some photographs a couple of months ago and just let my son play. It was great fun...here are some snaps from that evening.

One cute thing my son does:

When we say, "Oh, is the baby tired?" He blinks his eyes really tight to make it look like he is falling asleep. Then he cracks up. I love this little comedian!

Meet the "M" Family

I had so much fun with this beautiful family. This is the second time I've photographed them and the youngest, "A" was only a few weeks old! It's crazy how fast little ones change :). Just check out the eyes on this family. Guess where they get those peepers from?

Mom scheduled me to take the majority of photographs of her 6 month old along with some shots of her and her husband - I call them the Barbie Doll Family. Aren't they beautiful? Unfortunately, I was told that they have NO photographs of the two of them at their wedding :(. How sad is that? So - they wanted to make sure they got some great ones with the fall colors. Just beautiful!

Freeman/Sager Engagement Session

What a fun couple! I love it when couples aren't afraid to show affection. It really makes my job soooo much easier! They were VERY comfortable in front of the camera and it shows. This September, my cousin Kristi and her husband Justin finished their process for pre-adoption and were told just four short weeks ago that they were the proud parents of a newborn baby boy. They flew down to Texas and brought him home last week. She came in for their photoshoot that week and I immediately fell in love. He is so cute and sweet! He slept like a champ!!! Boy! When "M"'s mom called me to photograph her Senior daughter, she mentioned that the camera loves her. Well - when Miss "M" walked out of the car, I was floored! I really think this gal needs to audition for America's Next Top Model.

Calaycay/Huffman Wedding

I had the amazing privilege of photographing Ed and Candy's wedding on the 11th of October in the beautiful scenery of Tamarack Resort. It was a beautiful, intimate wedding that radiated with love and support for the bride and groom. I consider myself lucky to have been a part of that wonderful day!

Lumuli (Assistant and Hubby - or as Candy said - Hubby and Assistant) and I traveled to Tamarack for the wedding a few hours before. We were nervous about the roads because of the weather here in Boise. We had our first snow-fall. Can you believe it??? On October 10th??? Crazy! I was happy to discover that it hadn't snowed in McCall (or surrounding areas) as of yet. Phew!

When I arrived at this gorgeous hotel, I headed up to the girls' room, where Candy would be getting ready. She was so relaxed - I loved seeing this! Too many times, you Brides get all worked up about certain details and things that might not be going as planned, but the truth is that EVERY wedding has unplanned events and things that go "wrong". But that's just it - it doesn't matter. You are soon to be married to the man of your dreams and there is no reason for you to do anything but enjoy the day as it chooses to unfold. This is exactly what Candy did. Be like Candy, Ladies.

I decided to head over to the chapel, where the ceremony would take place and the schoolhouse, where the reception would be held. I found the guys chilling in the reception area. Chatting up a storm, I'm sure ;). Ed's son was also there, hangin' out. Isn't he just a handsome young man???

It was absolutely beautiful! Candy has exquisite taste. She really did an amazing job of creating a beautiful, intimate space for their matrimony!

Although the temperature was somewhere in the mid-20's, Candy and Ed really wanted some outdoor photographs. So, after they met and had their moment together (well, with their photographer...), we headed out to traipse around Tamarack in my Pilot. I don't even think I can even count how many brides I've chauffeured over the months :). It's always a great journey! Tamarack is absolutely beautiful. I love it there...

What a sweet, cute bridal party! They were, literally, half of the number of guests!!!

Just before the ceremony, Candy and her girls headed into the bathroom (yes, the official "before-the-wedding" meeting place). Candy saw this amazing window and insisted she be photographed in front of it. I am so glad she twisted my arm - it was such a beautiful, classic place.

The ceremony was just so sweet. It was performed by one of Candy's family friends & included beautiful moments - like the way the individual candles wouldn't light the Unity Candle - a bit of laughter ensued when Candy and Ed decided to mount the individual candles between the unity candle and hurricane glass. Super cute!

Candy demonstrated her amazing ability to design an intimate setting with details, lighting and color. This girl needs to go into business. She is an amazing designer. She left no detail unturned when it came to this most important day. She set the perfect mood and ambience.

Some of my favorite details were the cute M&M's with pictures of Candy and Ed. I also loved the Groom's Cake by Greg Marsh. Have you ever heard of these? I think they're more popular in the East - really cute! I also loved their "guest book" - which was actually a "guest bottle". They plan on opening the bottle on one of their anniversaries. Isn't that sweet?

Lumuli and I ended our evening by listening to good company enjoying laughter and food.

On our way out, I saw the Tamarack sign lit up outside. So - we stopped in the middle of the intersection, unloaded some of my gear and took this shot. I am glad I gave that one last effort because I really like this shot!

Meet Miss "L" - Your Sneak-Peek

I am photographing Miss "L"'s Dad's wedding this weekend and I was asked to photograph Miss "L" for her Senior Pictures because I was different! Of course, I said! I love Seniors, afterall!

Miss "L" is a girl after my own heart. She is a choir gal - you all know how I love choir! - and she has quite a beautiful voice. I was honored to serenaded by her in the Julia Davis Bandshell! We had fun together, traipsing around down-town, finding brand new locations just for her! She is a sweetheart and just look at her hair!!! I am so jealous of her beautiful curl :).

Schoenfelder/Gummerson Wedding

Katie was one of my brides who booked me over the phone, since she and Will live in Texas. She was such a sweetie and was one of a few of my brides who sent me a hand-written note of "can't wait to see you". I love to get hand-written notes! Thanks to all of you who take time out of your day to do this. It really makes me happy :). So - because of her sweet, thoughtful note, I knew this would be a lovely person to work for!

I met Katie and her bridesmaids at the Hampton Suites in Boise where they would begin getting ready. This is also the time that I get to shoot details, like the shoes, the jewelery (which was a romantic gift from the groom), the flowers and the dress.

When Katie got on her dress, she added this darling little golden sweater. One of the bridesmaids said, "Only Katie could wear a golden sweater with her wedding dress and still look beautiful". Isn't that the truth??? She has got such a great style and it was apparent in every part of her wedding.

Katie and Wil met downstairs in the lobby of the Hampton Inn where they would see eachother for the first time.

After their meeting, we headed over to the Church where we would get ready and shoot a few of the "before ceremony" shots with the bridesmaids. We would also get a shot of mom putting on the veil and of the incredibly unique Ring "pillow" along with some other great details!

The ceremony was beautiful. Katie's cousin is a priest and he performed the ceremony. It"s always nice to have that personal touch of, "I knew the bride when *insert something embarrassing about childhood here*". I could tell he really loves his cousin - it was so great that he was able to be a part of the wedding!

Aren't these two just so-stinkin' cute? They are Wil's nephew and niece and I could have just taken them both home with me! It was hard not to get a great shot with these two!

After the ceremony, the weather was going back and forth between rain and sunshine. We had to make the best of it, so during the rain, we shot inside at Hotel 43, where the boys stayed, and when it was sunny, we shot outside. If we were driving and it became sunny, we stopped! Will saw a great rainbow and we tried hard to get it in this first shot, but by the time we actually stopped at a place that had parking for us, the rainbow had disappeared...who cares? We still got this beautiful first shot!

Then we headed to Hotel 43. Did you know there were so many great areas to shoot in at the hotel?

Katie and Wil are both designers (do you see a trend in my weddings?), so they were up for many of my ideas! After Hotel 43, we headed over to Surprise Valley to get some great Storm shots. The first image in this post was also taken in Surprise Valley.

Okay - ironically, this bride and groom also had their reception at Barber Park this weekend. Barber Park really is a fantastic alternative to Katheryn Albertson's Park. Don't get me wrong, KAP is great, but you can't continue with your reception there. At Barber Park, you can have the beautiful outdoor wedding that you've always wanted (along with shade and beautiful lighting for the photographer :) ) and stay in the same place for the reception which can be held indoors, outdoors or both!

Anywho - Katie and Wil's reception was full of designer touches. From the amazing "log" cake from Greg Marsh (I feel like a broken record here - see my other posts with photos of cakes) to the very cool reception cards to the woodlike chairs & gorgeous "bride-created" topiaries, the theme of "into the woods" was an obvious thread to tie the entire reception together.

Okay - in all reality, when Katie told me of her colors of Gold and Silver, I wasn't quite sure how she would be able to pull it off. But - I must say - it was sooo beautiful! The girl's dresses looked fantastic on all of them (who would have known???) and the guys' socks??? Too cool! The Flower Girl's darling dress was made by Lessie, Katie's mom.

My favorite thing about the wedding? Of course it was the Cotton Candy Machine. After seeing me eye the machine for about 10 minutes, my sweetie-assistant, Brooke, asked me, "Do you want some Cotton Candy?". I could no longer resist. Alas! I got to participate in the delectable taste of my favorite fair food. It brought out the kid in all of us!

And at last, the traditions. These are ever-changing from wedding to wedding. There are many people who are switching them around or not even including them. One word of advice - however you do your "traditions", be sure it reflects your personality.

And finally - you all know how I love the dancing *sigh*.

Watkins/Briggs Wedding

I met this cute couple a few months ago and I was immediately drawn to them. Not only are they super sweet, but they are also designers. I love photographing weddings of designers - generally speaking, they have amazing taste & unique ideas - these two were no exception. I received Aubry & John's wedding invitation and saw a bit of their impeccable taste! John had designed a certain damask-like "motif" (forgive me, Designers, if I've used that word incorrectly). This motif was used throughout the entire wedding - from the invites that were designed similar to a poster of an upcoming film release, to the cake, which, again, was made by Greg Marsh.

I arrived at Barber Park, where Aubry and John would meet for the first time. Before Aubry arrived, John's jacket had popped a button and just like any good groom, he sewed it right up before they saw one another.

I was able to get some shots of the reception hall and all of Aubry & John's details before they met. Their Wedding Coordinator, Megan, did a beautiful job with the decor. The wind showed up a couple of times and knocked over a few things, but during the ceremony, it was absolutely perfect and everything was put back in it's place!

Witnessing Aubry and John meet for the first time brought pitter-patters to my heart! Aubry looked beautiful in her white dress and John could not wait to see her.

One of the great things about Barber Park is the variety of surroundings. We headed out back to the forested area where I photographed the bride and groom and their wedding party.

I also photographed the family. I love how close these families are. There was so much laughter and happiness for the bride and groom. As a matter of fact, both Aubry's mom and John's mom joined forces to make them an amazing wedding gift. I'll tell more about this gift in a later paragraph.

Here's a photo of the gift that Mom & Mom made for their lovely Chil'ens. It is a beautiful quilt made in all the autumn colors and Aubry and John love. It was absolutely exquisite. I love it when it's obvious how well a mom knows her child. It was sooo beautiful!

It was time for Aubry and John to touch-up and to get some rest before the ceremony.

As most of you know, this weekend was greeted with some rainy weather! I've been so very lucky to always have great weather for the "moments" of the photographs! The entire ceremony was lit with diffused sunlight and cooled by the Fall breeze. It couldn't have been more perfect!

I love this shot after the ceremony. You can feel the joy!

Sorry, Aubry and John. Not everyone was "fully present" for your ceremony :).

Aubry and John greeted the guests from their seats and invited them inside for the beautiful reception and heart-warming slideshow, where they stayed incognito, awaiting their Grand Entrevous!

After the slideshow, they entered into the reception hall like they were walking on the red carpet! They also had a "red-carpet" holler!

The delicious dinner was catered by Goodwood. Presentation, service and flavor was flawless!!! A big shout-out to all the fantastic waiters/resses at the reception :).

The cake cutting, toasts, and dances assisted in bidding us goodnight to an evening well-played.

Mr. "V" Sneak-Peek

This poor family has been waiting for a LONG time for their Sneak-Peek! We had a few minor delays, but this shall be delayed no longer!

Isn't this little guy just the cutest? He is the nephew of a couple of whom I just photographed their wedding. The Bride and Groom gifted his Mom and Dad a session for their sweetie-pie 6-month old. I took the photographs the day before the wedding.

Laursen/Jones Wedding Sneak-Peek

I had such a great time on Saturday - but, of course, I always have a great time at weddings!

I met Niki and her mom in February, I think, and when she walked in she blew me away with her beauty! She is such a doll, too. She and Mike are perfect for eachother.

Niki told me of their love beginning in Junior High. They have been together ever since High School - High School Sweethearts don't always end up in marriage, but it's obvious that their romance was destined for forever.

Niki booked a collection that included an engagement session. She had such a great idea for their session - you can view her session HERE to see where they decided to have their session. It was one of the most unique sessions I've ever done! I designed a Guest Book for Niki & Mike's reception. It turned out beautifully! This image was on the cover of their book. I'll come back to it in a few more paragraphs...

Niki got ready at Hotel 43. Believe me, Ladies & Gentlemen, this is probably my favorite hotel in Boise. It is so modern and decorated so beautifully. It's a fantastic place for those "getting ready" shots. Many of the bridesmaids were family - Niki told me that their family is so close, they take a vacation every year. The bridesmaids helped Niki get on her veil and her dress in the room at the hotel.

Niki and Mike chose to meet each other for the first time in the lobby of the hotel. When Mike saw Niki, I think he actually said, "Holy Cow!" It was so cute :). And who wouldn't have a jaw dropped when she came in? She is a beautiful girl anyway, but add a crazy gorgeous dress, beautiful hair, and great make-up and she is sure to stop traffic. Yes - all of these photographs were taken in the lobby. If anyone wants to randomly gift me, I love the furniture in Hotel 43. Thanks :).

After that, we headed to The Cathedral of the Rockies to do some outdoor photographs.

The Bridal Party was awesome! Like I said in my previous post, I love it when Bridal Parties get silly! I asked the girls to squeeze in and the boys gave me this. Love IT!

After formals, we headed back into the Olivet Room where Niki spent the hour before her ceremony resting. I advise my brides and grooms to make sure their photographs are done at least 45 minutes before the ceremony for relaxation time. It's a big day and you need to make sure you are fully rested! However, I did take advantage of that time to photograph Niki by herself.

The ceremony began right on time (thanks to Niki's planning ;) ) - she is quite organized! This gentleman is Steve, Niki's Uncle. He was the ringbearer for their wedding and looked quite handsome. Carolyn, the wedding planner from the church, is on the left. She did a great job and was very kind and low-key :). I loved her hat!

Dad walked Niki down the aisle. I love how you can see Mike's blurred expression in the background. He was smitten!

The ceremony was beautiful! Afterward, the guests ushered outside to see the newly married couple off to the reception. I loved these shots. They are so full of genuine emotion...

We headed over to The Powerhouse where the guests played! Niki sneaked a peak at the guests and decor while she awaited her "Grand Entrance". She was please at how well-liked the Cheese Fondue from Ripple by Bridget Wright was! We continued with cocktails and hors 'oeuvres followed by a delicious meal by the in-house catering.

Another creation by Greg Marsh of Marsh Cakes. He is truly a master at his craft. His cakes not only look amazing, but they taste fantastic!

I love to shoot details. These little pieces are really what makes up your wedding. Who wouldn't want these in their album???
These gorgeous flowers??? They are from Boise at it's Best...GORGEOUS flowers...did I mention that they were GORGEOUS???

I love this sequence of photographs - they are feeding eachother the cake and having a great time doing so. It was super cute to watch. And no, she is not getting ready to hit him in that last shot...okay, maybe she is.

If you have followed my blog at all, you know that I love photographing dances. They are just so...how shall we say it...fun??? :). The Band, Signature Sound (208-514-8383), was great fun, too! I love bands and these guys really helped get the party started!

And - to end the post - I must include this shot of a couple of crack-up guests. Remeber that photograph on the cover of their Engagement Guest Book (I referenced it earlier in this post)? These two family friends were giving Mike and Niki a hard time about this shot because - and I quote - "That's not how it works". They thought they would give Mike and Niki a REAL-LIFE shot in this same pose. Here it is:

Merida/Kern Wedding Sneak-Peek

What a beautiful, wonderful wedding! We had an incredible day of light with crazy clouds in the background and God's very own diffuser :). It was absolutely gorgeous! And - we were so lucky because the only two hours we spent photographing before the wedding were completely clear of rain. As soon as we headed back to the hotel before the ceremony, it began raining.

We began our day at The Modern where Kelsey got ready with her lovely, beautiful and supportive bridesmaids. There was so much love that was in that room for Kelsey and her handsome groom. It was so very sweet! They were so excited to see their friends commit their lives to one another.

Kelsey & Josh chose to meet each other for the first time in the Lobby of the hotel. Josh was smitten! It was so sweet to see him look at her for the first time that day - you could see that he was ready to have her as his wife.

This is when Kelsey's dad saw her for the first time - so sweet :).

When Kelsey and I visited about what kind of photographs she was hoping to get from her wedding, she mentioned that she loves the urban look. I have only had a couple of brides request it, but it is one of my favorite backdrops! One of the great things about The Modern is that it is located in a fantastic part of Downtown Boise. So - we used the amazing backdrops around the area - all within, literally, a 1/2 mile of each other.

After our shoot, we headed back indoors to relax before the ceremony. This is when I headed over to the ceremony and reception site at The Linen Building. I really love this building and had it been around when I got married, we would have had the reception here. The gorgeous flowers & decor were another creation by Bliss Events.

Like I said, it was POURING rain on their wedding day. So - when Kelsey and her bridesmaids walked over to the ceremony site, they looked so cute using their umbrellas and hiking up their dresses.

The ceremony was - literally - the shortest ceremony I have ever been to. I think it was about 3 minutes. Seriously. I had to be a speedy-gonzales to get the shots! I always love the shots when the bride and groom have been pronounced and they come down the aisle. This was no exception.

I loved the look of the cake from Amaru Confections! And - I really love shooting rings :).

The rest of the evening, I was able to witness a really funny toast, a really touching one, two guests who made me laugh, a baby I loved, and a couple of very beautiful dances. I have the best job in the world...

Miss "D" Sneak-Peek!

I met "D" a couple of weeks ago when she came by for a consultation. Now - not every Senior comes in for a consult, but I love it when my Seniors do! I like getting to know you before I photograph you :). Often, meeting me alleviates any nerves you may feel. Or - it may make you more nervous :). Just kidding (I hope)!

We began our journey at The Boise Depot. This is a good ol' faithful location, but I DO try to spice it up by moving around the area, rather than just at the Depot. Also - the depot is getting a facelift, so we weren't able to use any of the great architecture. Not a HUGE deal, since I know of some other spots around the depot.

Another cool thing - I got to use my $15 Craigslist chair. I swear - my husband is going to ban me from buying chairs. I have a "realiable four" that I choose from for my sessions. This one, though, is probably my favorite. I just love it! Best $15 I've spent in a long time! I think I'll start buying a new one for every school year. That way, people will know which year you graduated by only looking at the chair...the wheels are a'turnin :).

Anyway, I had a total blast with this sweetheart and her mom. I hear she is an amazing singer, but she is so humble, she didn't even tell me that! All of you know that I, too, was heavily involved in choir, so choir guys and gals have a special place in my heart :).

DeLish Wedding Sneak-Peek

Okay - so funny story about the bride. She came in to interview me around February, I think, and she walks in. I know I've seen her before. Then she tells me, "I bought a TV stand from you awhile ago. I knew this place looked familiar." Isn't that too funny? Small, small town, Boise is.

One of my favorite things about this couple is their sense of humor. It is not cutting, it is not sarcastic. It's just plain fun! For example, they named their wedding "The DeLish Wedding" - not because either of their names is "DeLish". It's actually Parrish and DeLong. Get it? :). Sooo cute! Carrie also informed me that their family has a "Mayhem Committee" for each family function. You'll see the proof in one of the photos later in this post.

Anywho - what a wonderful, wonderful wedding. The bride and groom, together with their friends and family, made their commitment to one another so clear. Their intentions of being committed for life was written into their vows and shown on their faces. They asked for the support of their friends and family in their commitment. They thanked their parents for setting such a beautiful example of marriage. It was just such a different wedding. It was an honor to photograph it!

I came to "St. Chapelle" just a few minutes before Carrie & Matty met eachother for the first time that day. I had never been to the winery before this, so you can imagine my awe when I saw it. It's absolutely gorgeous and I can't blame anyone for wanting their wedding there. Just gorgeous!

Carrie's bridesmaides/officiant were just as much of a hoot as the bride and groom themselves. These people were not afraid to goof it up in front of the camera. It makes for such great shots! Oh yea - the officiant? She's actually a childhood friend who became ordained for their wedding!

I really loved the parasols that Carrie brought for her bridesmaids. They made for really fun photographs!!! Girls, this is a great idea - take it and run with it :).

Carrie & Matt were up for anything, so I took them away from their reception for about 10 minutes to catch this beautiful sunset light in the orchards. I would love a place like this for a studio. How fun would that be?

Here's the "Mayhem Committee"'s contribution to the DeLish Wedding. LOVE IT!

In case you haven't noticed by my other wedding posts, I love love love the dancing. It's so full of emotion and you can hardly ever find me with a dry eye after the first dances. This was certainly no exception. First- she dances with her adoring groom.

Then - she dances with her dad. Now, Carrie is such a cutie-patootie! My observation and assumption is that she was crying when she was dancing with her dad and then felt silly for crying (you're not silly for that!), so she and her dad began giggling uncontrollably. It was so darling. With a song likeNessun Dorma, I don't know how anyone could have watched this dance without tearing up.

"C"'s Sneak-Peek!

"C" is an athlete from Timberline. He likes Golf, among other sports, so we decided to begin our journey at Warm Springs Golf Course. He's got these amazing blue eyes, so I knew I would LOVE photographing him in his blue golf shirt. We headed downtown for some more photographs and sneaked in some at the Anne Frank Memorial before it got too dark. What a great guy! I had so much fun with him and his mom - can't wait for them to see these!

The "R" Family Sneak-Peek

Oh my, oh my! What a hunk of chunk this 6 month old is! He is just so sweet, cute, happy...and all of this after a hard night of teething and not enough sleep :). He has a sister and brother who simply ADORE him. They were so sweet with him. This little boy sure was not lacking attention or love!

Mr. "C"s Sneak-Peek...

I met Mr. C while on another shoot. He came with his aunt, uncle and cousins during their family shoot and I was told that he was accepted to UCLA with a dance scholarship. I wanted to photograph him as soon a I heard this! "C"'s Mom called me to set up a shoot before he headed down to UCLA.

We went to South Boise to try to find some old abandoned houses but the one that we found looked a little too scary. So, we headed to another scary house that I knew wasn't occupied :) and we shot a few there. Then we went downtown for some more.

What were you doing this day, 7 years ago?

Can you believe it's been 7 years since the planes hit the WTC and Pentagon? Do you remember what you were doing when you found out this horrible news?

I remember what I was doing. I was on my way to school (I was teaching music at the time) and I heard the radio. My 6th graders were my first kids of the day and we turned on the TV to hear more details of what was happening. It was then that I saw the second plane hit. I thought for sure we were on the verge of WWIII.

It was a terribly scary time. My heart aches for those children who's parents were taken from them unnecessarily, for the firefighters who gave their own lives to save others, for the families who no longer had their aunt, uncle, brother, sister, son, daughter, mom or dad.

I was never as proud of our nation as when we pulled together, despite differences, to show the world that we were united and that this tragedy would not take us down. I remember almost coming to tears on the many occasions I would see flags being flown on cars, in yards, or in hands. What an amazing testament of the human spirit.

Miss "M" Sneak-Peek!

Miss "M" is a Senior at Borah High. She is so sweet and really fun to be around! She brought her friend, also Miss "M" and Mom with her to the shoot. Seniors - if you have a friend who wants to come with you on the shoot, feel free to bring them. I love having other people there who will help you relax and be yourself! Also - I like help with the reflector and carrying chairs :D.

We did the shoot in the beautiful area of Surprise Valley since Miss "M" loves nature. After we were done with that area, we headed down to the water at Lucky Peak (after last week's shoot there, I have a feeling this will be requested quite a bit!). We had so much fun trying out new places! But MAN!!! It was windy!!! It makes for really cool natural "fan" shots, though!

Miss "B" Sneak-Peek!

I love this girl! When her mom contacted me to set up an appointment for Senior pictures, she proceeded to tell me that she and her family went to Kenya this summer on a short-term mission trip with their church. It is so fun to find connections like this around the Valley.

Miss "S" is every bit as beautiful inside and she is out! She has got some killer eyes with crazy color combos - orange, green, brown - just gorgeous! I don't know what it is about me getting to photograph people with such gorgeous eyes, but I sure am lucky!

We started off down at Lucky Peak. I've never photographed there, so it was really fun exploring some different areas with "S" and her mom. So - if you are thinking of a really cool, unique place to be photographed, don't hesitate to tell me about it! As a matter of fact, I just might kiss you for it :).

Wallace/Veatch Wedding Sneak-Peek!

I had a blast shooting this wedding last weekend! I shot Alaina & Levi's engagement photographs a few weeks ago. It made me super excited to shoot their wedding. We ended up using their photographs to make a guest signature book. Have you seen those? They are so cool - I'll have to post a pic sometime soon! Click HERE to view the engagement pictures.

We began our day at a suite in The Grove Hotel. The Suite was Sweet! HA! - okay - bad pun. I love "getting ready" shots. It really helps tell the story of your day...Alaina had most of her hair done when I got to the hotel and it looked absolutely gorgeous! I love her hair :). She finished getting ready and we headed down to the lobby where she would meet her "soon-to-be" groom. After their time of connection, we headed out to the Boise Depot for photographs.

I have little tricks to try to get people to loosen up. As much as I love photography, I understand that smiling for so long can get old after awhile. So - I do things to try to get people to give me sincere expressions. I love this result of one of my tricks. No - I will not reveal my secrets!

We headed back out to The Grove for the wedding on The Terrace. My second shooter, Valerie Davenport, made sure to get these beautiful shots of The Terrace before the wedding. It was beautifully decorated. We had clear blue skies and a lot of friends and family to witness this lovely couple becoming one!

After the wedding, we headed to the Ballroom for the reception. There was an amazing "Grand Entrance" for the guests. It was grand indeed! The flowers, the linens, the settings, the lighting. It was just beautiful!

The wedding included another masterpiece by Greg Marsh. His cakes not only look good - they taste great, too!

Two of my favorite guests from the whole evening were Alaina's Mana & Papa. They were just absolutely darling. I *heart* them both.

However - as much as I love Mana & Papa, I still have enough love left over for the rest of the guests...

We ended the evening with a great dance by Alaina & Levi. Dancing continued with Levi & Mom and Alaina & Dad. No matter how many times I see these dances, I cry at almost every single one. I love these dances...they are so touching...and as a Mama myself, I now understand the feeling of the parent.

Boy - could these two cut-up-a-rug!!!

Miss "L" Sneak-Peek!

I had the wonderful opportunity of photography this beauty last Thursday evening. She has such a beautiful smile and those freckles!!! Just beautiful!!! She also brought about 10 outfits that I got to take my pick from. I love it when that happens :).

"L" was a referral from a wedding I shot in December. She had some great ideas - like going into the water fountain in front of the old courthouse :). She was so good at modeling for the camera. It sure made for a fun session!!!!

Fire in Boise - very close to our home.

Last night, my husband and I were looking out our back windows at the gorgeous view we are blessed with and saw about 10 on-lookers across the way. We thought there was a wreck at Surprise Way and E. Amity. However, when we walked outside to get a better view, we saw that a massive fire had erupted in the middle of the field just west of our home. It was at that time that the wind was crazy strong and we saw the fires blow right up the hills to the homes on the rim. Everyone in our neighborhood was watering down their houses and turning on their sprinklers. Lumuli and I began to remove important items from our home into our cars and were successfully evacuated around 8:00 p.m. We left our house not knowing whether it would remain.

The fire went from a few feet many acres in a matter of seconds because of the massive wind and heat we had last evening.

We stayed the night with some good friends and came home this morning to our home still standing. We are thankful for the firemen who successfully saved lives and homes. It could have been so much worse.

Telitha & John's Sneak-Peek!

When Telitha wrote to me and said that she and her fiance wanted to have their engagement session take place at the fair, I literally screamed out loud!!! She told me that the fair has always had a special place in their heats, since that's where he proposed! I have always wanted to do an engagement session at the fair, so I knew this would be a fun opportunity!

Telitha and John are such a sweet couple! I loved hanging out with them. They are so care-free :). And John? He ADORES Telitha and it is just so fun to see that :).

The Carnies (Carnival Workers - pardon me if that is not PC) were fantastic. They allowed us to take an extra trip in the Ferris Wheel to make sure we got sunset shots. They also allowed me to ride the Carousel for free!!!
